Thanks to the people who came to the festival dancing and having fun in the crowd, the automatic call to emergency services feature was activated by detecting accidents.
The first rescuers contacted Apple during the festival and the problem was fixed “on the spot”, although the company offered to send engineers to fix the problem. To reduce the workload, the Manchester Police Department advised concert goers to disable this feature, resulting in a 40-60% drop in searches.
But from now on, Apple said it will make adjustments to the function’s algorithm to minimize the number of false positives reported in other scenarios as well, such as skiing and amusement parks.
