It is known that the visible lunar cycle lasts a little over 7 days, and about 15 days pass from new moon to full moon.

The concept of the week was first introduced in history by the Sumerians. Its state was formed about five thousand years ago at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. And the concept of a week arose because sedentary agriculture arose and it was necessary to somehow count the time.

Thanks to the Sumerian astronomers and priests, the hour was divided into 60 minutes. Also, the Sumerians had a solar-lunar calendar. It had 7 days and each was dedicated to one of the gods.

The division of time into weeks in Russian culture emerged thanks to Ancient Byzantium. From there it came with Christianity.
