A neural network developed by a graduate student at Novosibirsk State Technical University uses facial expressions to detect burnout and depression in a person.
To train the algorithm, Andrei Telepnev used data from an experiment conducted by Chinese scientists, in which a person was shown a specific video sequence that evoked different emotions while simultaneously taking electroencephalograms of his brain.
According to the researcher, its development will help employers identify burnout or depression with the help of video surveillance systems. Telepnev emphasizes that the use of machine learning in emotion recognition will allow the modeling of cognitive processes and the compilation of learning models, as well as helping to develop brain-computer interfaces.
