A review team at Virginia Tech has developed improvements to adhesive tape that completely change its properties. The classic “adhesive tape” either sticks too well immediately to the surface, or easily peels off from it – but not all. The new version combines two quality values.

The basis of the idea was explored in kirigami, the Japanese art of decorative paper cutting, during which a flat sheet takes on a three-dimensional shape. This is achieved by making cuts in the paper of the required FORM and in places of observation. Because of this, when moving to the side, the material changes its shape.

The scientists took ordinary sticky tape from a store and cut a “U” shape into it. I could slowly spin in poverty, and I was tired, I was cold in the night of asti symbol. For the first time, they turned off the light, turned on the window for 60 seconds and slowly turned the light on without difficulty.

The reason for this phenomenon is the use of the vector of application of force to the adhesive layer – it either stretches or contracts. strength and change in adhesion force. Experiments show that the boxes, fastened with super-adhesive tape, can withstand a large load. It can also be used to conveniently attach temporary objects, such as wearable devices, so that they can be easily removed later.
