An outbreak of meningitis occurred at the Ozon distribution center in Yekaterinburg.

Rospotrebnadzor announced the registration of cases of meningitis at the Ozon distribution center in Yekaterinburg on the territory of the Koltsovsky logopark. So far, seven cases of infection have been confirmed, the ministry said in a statement.

“Pending the results of laboratory tests, comprehensive measures were immediately taken to prevent further spread of the disease,” Rospotrebnadzor noted.

The department added that vaccination of employees is currently taking place. More than 60 people have already been vaccinated.

The Ozon press service reported that all the sick are employees of contracting organizations. A general disinfection will be carried out in the warehouse where the outbreak occurred.

“We have introduced a mask regime, we measure the temperature at the entrance and we treat the surfaces with an antiseptic. We also carry out regular medical examinations: if there are signs of a cold, we are not allowed to work,” Ozon said.

Meningitis is not transmitted through packages, Rospotrebnadzor emphasized. On various surfaces, such as cardboard or plywood, the virus lives for a short time.

“People who receive packages from Ozon distribution centers are not at risk of contracting meningococcal disease,” the agency said.
