Former IKEA partner plans to recover 2 billion rubles for refusing to build Mega near St. Petersburg

Ingka Centers Rus Property E is part of Ingka Centers, which owns the IKEA and Mega complexes.

As stated in the case file, the defendant bought a 40-hectare plot of land from the institute for 2.25 billion rubles between the Krasnoselskoye highway and the Ring Road (KAD) in the Leningrad region seven years ago. There, Ingka Centers Rus Property E was going to build the Mega Novoselye shopping and entertainment center (together with IKEA) on 220 thousand square meters. This facility was scheduled to open in 2021, but in 2020 the company changed its strategy and decided to abandon the plans.

SevNIIGiM was a partner of the Swedish company in this complex: it had to co-invest in the construction, as well as assume the design and coordination of the facilities with the authorities, including the traffic interchange in the area of km 84 of the ring road.

After the refusal to build the complex, the institute went to court demanding the repayment of more than 2 billion rubles, of which 1.8 billion rubles are the principal debt and 284 million rubles are interest for using other people’s money, it remains in The file.

Earlier, the St. Petersburg arbitration agreed to the institute’s requirements of 60 million rubles for the design of the exchange.

The Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region scheduled the claim for consideration on August 17. Ingka Centers did not comment on the lawsuit, SevNIIGiM did not respond to the publication’s request.
