In Russia, scammers began to attack messaging users en masse. Under the guise of regular files, they deliver malware and links to phishing sites. Information security experts reported this to Izvestia.

Hackers began to attack instant messaging users en masse.

In the first months of 2023, the number of such attacks increased by 2-3 times, according to T.Hunter. According to Positive Technologies, at the beginning of the year, 10% of these cases in the Russian Federation were associated with couriers, compared to 4% in the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to experts, the increase in the number of attacks through messengers is facilitated by the increase in the number of blockades of Internet resources set in 2022-2023.

Experts recommend not opening attachments and links from unknown and suspicious senders, using an antivirus, and generally being more critical of instant messaging messages.

  • According to Group-IB forecasts, the intensity of attacks will continue to grow in 2023. Hackers will develop new tools and use solutions that are difficult to recognize and detect. At the same time, the volume of data leaked to the public is unlikely to increase.
