The Sphere is Las Vegas’ newest attraction. The massive LED dome is almost 160 meters wide and over 110 meters high, projecting very realistic images. The aim is to offer a new experience for shows and events in general.

Sphere auditions kick off this week, but the first big performance comes on September 29 with an already sold out U2 show.

Sphere was created by MSG and Sphere Entertainment using a massive 16K LED display with a total of 17,600 seats inside. The idea is for the audience to have a deeply immersive cinematic experience, including virtual reality emulation, without the need for a headset.

Not just a visual show

The creators of MSG Sphere don’t just want to offer a unique look. The 10,000 seats in the dome are equipped with devices that can complement the user’s sensory experience, cool, heat, vibrate and even release fragrance into the air.

The sound system is also different. There are 164,000 speakers scattered throughout the site, and these speakers can even isolate certain sounds for certain seats. For example, it is possible to watch presentations in different languages.

Sphere’s estimated cost is $2.3 billion, making it the most expensive Las Vegas attraction ever built.
