South Korean tech giant Samsung Networks, together with Taiwanese microelectronics developer MediaTek, achieved a record speed of 363 Mbps on 5G networks, which required a chipset with three antennas and state-of-the-art transmitters.

Samsung and MediaTek achieve ‘outstanding’ 5G download speeds of 363 Mbps

The tests were carried out at Samsung’s lab in Suwon, writes Gizmochina. And to increase speed, the researchers resorted to an innovative solution: the aggregation of technologies and ranges.

Samsung Networks used C-band massive MIMO radios, a virtualized distributed unit (vDU) and a 5G core.

MediaTek introduced a test device equipped with a new M80-based processor chipset that used three antennas (1900 MHz, 3.7 GHz, and 3.7 GHz) on a single channel. It was this combination that made it possible to achieve an “outstanding download speed” of 363 Mbps.

This technological breakthrough opens up great prospects for consumer products in the future, as the speed of downloading data to the network will significantly increase. And this is a critical factor in a variety of applications.

For example, streaming HD video, video conferencing, and online multiplayer gaming will run faster and smoother on networks that can boast such high download speeds.
