Launched last Wednesday (05), the social network Threads has surpassed 100 million users in just five days. The platform is the fastest to reach this number since the beginning of the internet.
And Threads’ track record has been impressive since its inception, registering over 2 million accounts in just two hours. There were 5 million users in the first four hours, and that number doubled when the service reached seven hours online.
The connection with Instagram has certainly fueled the growth of the platform, as you must have an account on the photo network to access it. When creating an account, Threads also gives you the option to follow all friends on Insta.
Despite an impressive 100 million users, this is just the beginning. According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the expectation is that at some point the site will have an audience of 1 billion people.
“It will take some time, but I think it should be a public speaking app with over 1 billion people. Twitter had the opportunity to do this but didn’t get it right,” the executive wrote.
Fastest growing apps
The numbers achieved by Thread are impressive when compared to other services. Despite the significant difference in the number of people with internet access during the period, it took 5 years for Twitter to reach 100 million active users.
And the truth is, with 5.3 billion people currently connected to the internet, news has a tendency to reach great heights at an accelerating rate.
To remember some of this history, Technology World conducted a survey of how long it took many major social networks, apps, and services to reach 100 million users today. Check out:
- Thread: 5 days;
- ChatGPT: 2 months;
- TikTok: 9 months;
- instagram: 2 years 4 months;
- telegram: 2 years 6 months;
- What’s up: 3 years 8 months;
- instant chat: 3 years 8 months;
- Facebook: 4 years 6 months;
- excitement: 5 years 5 months;
- WeChat: 5 years 7 months;
- LinkedIn: 7 years 11 months.
