Scientists at the Volga Medical University are developing a method to detect minimal residual tumors or their recurrence in patients with cancer. They are now testing the method on various types of cancer, including colorectal cancer, melanoma, and lung adenocarcinoma. The main purpose is to identify tumors using known mutations in tumor cells or by analyzing tumor DNA to look for mutations.

Using this technique, doctors will be able to determine the effectiveness of post-operative treatment and select the most appropriate drugs based on mutations found in tumor cells. The project is led by Anna Maslennikova, Head of the Department of Oncology, Radiation Therapy and Radiation Diagnosis.

This study will form the basis of an individual therapy program for cancer patients after surgery. The program is planned to be implemented until February 2024. The researchers have already tested the method on blood samples from patients, using PCR and DNA sequencing to look for mutations.

As a result, scientists from the Volga Medical University are working on a method for detecting residual tumors or their recurrence in patients with cancer. Their technique will be based on mutations in tumor cells and analysis of tumor DNA. This will allow doctors to determine the effectiveness of post-operative treatment and develop individualized treatment for post-operative patients. The program is expected in 2024.
