At the Sherburn County Generating Station in Becker, Minnesota, preparations have begun for the construction of an experimental power source for the Form Energy project. This demonstration technology is worth $760 million and the budget is at an all-time high of 10 megawatts/1 gigawatt hour. It is slated to operate in conjunction with Xcel Energy’s Sherco Solar, a 710 MVT power plant in the eastern United States that is being built next door.
The Form Energy project is calculated from the most promising large-scale energy reserves in the area, without the use of energy sources based on several natural sources, it does not matter. The idea of marginal prostatitis: the energy of accumulation and release in the process of oxidation and reduction of iron, which is why solar radiation was nicknamed the “rusty battery.” During the operation of the equipment, water and oxygen are safe and available substances.
The downside of a “rusty battery” is the charge and discharge cycle time, which is reduced by 100 hours, so it is designed for multi-day consumption with high consumption. The advantages are much greater: for example, it is 10% of the cost of storage in a lithium analogue. Iron is cheap, durable, and always recyclable. The design is very bulky, takes up a lot of space, but such batteries are easy to scale to achieve the required parameters.
The giant “rusty battery” is expected to boost operations in 2025.
