The Turkish Ministry of the Interior issued a rebuttal to the information about the termination of the issuance of residence permits for foreigners in the 39 districts of Istanbul. The Migration Department published a press release on Twitter – it clarifies that the restriction is valid only in 10 districts of the city.

“Allegations that all 39 districts of the city of Istanbul are closed to obtaining a residence permit are not true, and currently only 10 districts are closed to applying for a main residence permit,” the report said.

The agency noted that these are Avcılar, Bahçelievler, Basaksehir, Bagcılar, Esenler, Küçükçekmece, Sultangazi and Zeytinburnu districts, while Fatih and Esenyurt regions have restrictions from 2021.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Interior, administrative units where the proportion of foreigners exceeds 20% of the number of Turkish citizens are closed to apply for a residence permit; As of July 1, 2022, 63 districts, 1169 neighborhoods are closed across Turkey. , and specifically in Istanbul – 54 rooms.

Earlier this week, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported that the country’s Interior Ministry had stopped issuing residence permits in all districts of Istanbul due to increasing migration. According to the publication, the restriction has been in force since March of this year, although the country’s authorities have not officially ruled on this issue.
