The manufacturers of electric passenger vehicles in Russia Motorinvest, Moskvich and Avtotor also intend to produce charging stations. The start of works is scheduled for 2023-2024, Vedomosti reported.
“Motorinvest” at the first stage will master the production of chargers from a third-party manufacturer. Moskvich estimated the development costs at 20 million rubles, for equipment for the production of stations – 42 million rubles. Avtotor will not load itself yet, but in a year it will produce electronic components for them and supply EZS to final manufacturers.
Charging stations are a complex business, and while there are high-quality Russian products on the market, it’s not clear why stations from automakers are needed, says Iya Gordeeva, president of the Association for the Development of Electric Vehicles, Unmanned and Connected and Infrastructure.
According to her, the authorities and companies are investing significantly in the production of chargers, and the companies that should develop the production of electric cars are going to engage in a side business, which seems strange.
- In Moscow, in early July, they developed a charging station for several electric vehicles at once. The station is capable of charging three electric vehicles at the same time, the average charging time is from 10-20 to 40-60 minutes.
- Developers may be required to install EV charging stations near residential buildings during their construction phase. This idea is being developed by the Ministry of Construction; the department is also considering the possibility of allowing the installation of stations without the consent of the owners.
