The system includes the Mars Transit Habitat (MTH) module, which will carry four crew members for the entire journey.
MTH will work with the Artemis Lunar Base Camp to help NASA prepare for missions to Mars.
During the simulation phase, the crew will communicate with MTH directly or via NASA’s lunar space station called Gateway. Then they will land on the Moon and work there as if they were working on Mars.
After completing the missions on the surface, the astronauts will return to the Mars Module and simulate the return to Earth.
It is important to note that communication with the crew during a Mars mission will be difficult due to long delays that can last up to 24 minutes.
Additionally, surface modules often have to remain dormant on the surface for several months before a crew arrives.
