This planet is 1200 light-years from Earth and has a surprisingly low density.
WASP-193b is 1.5 times larger than Jupiter, but its mass is only 0.13 times that giant. The exoplanet also draws attention with its rapid annual turnover of only 6.25 Earth days.
The most surprising thing about the WASP-193b is its density. It is only 0.059 grams per cubic centimeter, which is only slightly higher than the density of cotton candy (0.05 g/cm3). For comparison, Earth’s density is 5.51 g/cm3.
Scientists note that such “loose” planets often do not exist for a long time and are located near young stars. But WASP-193b orbits a star that is already 6 billion years old. This raises questions about how such a planet could survive, and speculation about the possible existence of a ring system.
