A Rosatom subsidiary, Rener, bought about 23% for 6.2 billion rubles in JSC Kama, the developer of Atom electric vehicles. The company’s shareholders are not disclosed, writes Kommersant.
Serial assembly of Atom electric vehicles is scheduled to start in 2025. The last assembly site was called the Moskvich plant.
Rosatom called the deal “a relatively small investment in a promising project.” The company also highlighted the synergy effect for its electric vehicle component production business.
Experts differ in their assessment of the actual cost of the project: some argue that Rosatom’s purchase price is right for the market, while others estimate Kama at $100-$150 million.

The manufacturers of electric passenger vehicles in Russia Motorinvest, Moskvich and Avtotor also intend to produce charging stations. The start of the works is scheduled for 2023-2024.

Developers may be required to install EV charging stations near residential buildings during their construction phase. This idea is being developed by the Ministry of Construction; the department is also considering the possibility of allowing the installation of stations without the consent of the owners.
