Two key iPhone 14 features helped save his life: collision detection and emergency SOS via satellite.
First, the iPhone has automatically detected a serious crash. Second, because the crash site was out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage, the device automatically sent a text message via satellite to an emergency hub.
The message contained precise location information, and the local search party was able to locate and rescue the man using a helicopter.
“It was in a 120-metre deep canyon with almost no exit,” said Steve Goldsworthy, head of rescue operations at Montrose Search and Rescue.
According to another member of the team, the man would probably have died of bleeding if he had not been found in time.
