The first test flights of drones for mail delivery took place in Chukotka, Vedomosti writes. The test was carried out by the joint venture of the Russian Post and SK Capital “BAS Consortium”.

The first test flights of mail drones took place in Chukotka

During the tests, the Geoscan-401 drone transported several shipments of mail. The flights were made from Coal Mines to Anadyr.

In the future, it is planned to conduct test flights in the Kamchatka Territory, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The geography of air delivery will also expand to other regions where experimental legal regimes operate.

“Traditional manned aircraft are often not equipped to transport small shipments with high frequency. It is unmanned aircraft systems that will solve this problem,” said Denis Baryshnikov, executive director of the BAS Consortium.

The Russian Post expects that in the future the use of UAVs will increase the frequency of transportation and volumes by more than 10 times. At the same time, logistics services should become 50% cheaper.

Earlier it was reported that “dronosalons” may appear in Russia, in which, by analogy with car dealerships, they will sell drones and provide their support service.
