According to insider information, the device will receive an aluminum case instead of the stainless steel used in the previous model. This will make the device a little lighter, which is important for devices that focus on fitness and sleep tracking.
While the current Pixel Watch weighs 36 grams without the strap, the new model will be noticeably lighter.
Fitbit, which is owned by Google and also uses aluminum in its Sense and Versa smart watches, already has experience in materials. For example, the Sense 2 weighs just 26 grams without the strap, making it almost weightless on the wrist.
It’s important to note that the stainless steel case on the current Pixel Watch is nearly invisible as the domed glass stretches from edge to edge. Therefore, Google’s transition to aluminum should be negligible.
