Yaroslavl State University named after PG Demidov (YarSU), together with the Institute of Inland Waters Biology named after ID Papanin of the Russian Academy of Sciences, plans to create a floating university to monitor the state of the reservoirs of the Volga cascade. It will be similar to other floating universities supported by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The research expedition ship “Akademik Topchiev” is planned to be used for reconnaissance and observation purposes.

Scientists from both organizations will invite students to the university’s flagship, Akademik Topchiev, to jointly monitor the reservoirs of the Volga cascade. This ship has good maneuverability and can operate in shallow areas and in water bends. In addition, universities will cooperate in projects related to training young scientists, conducting scientific research and supporting student studies.

Cooperation between universities will be shaped around the training of experts in the field of technologies for environmental monitoring and monitoring of the bioecological state of natural objects. Recently, a basic experimental bioecology department has been established, which will conduct research on the aquatic ecosystems of the Volga cascade. This collaboration is part of the Priority 2030 federal project.
