Scientists from the MISIS University of Science and Technology have proposed an innovative way to fight cancer – magnetic hyperthermia, when nanoparticles heat the tumor. The new technology allows the creation of special substances for the treatment of different types of cancer.
The idea of magnetic hyperthermia is the introduction of nanoparticles into tumor tissue and heating them under the influence of a magnetic field, which destroys cancer cells without harming healthy cells. Current methods use magnetite or maghemite-based nanoparticles, but their application to different tumor types is difficult.
Scientists have proposed creating nanomaterials from indium strontium hexaferrite, which allows you to change their magnetic properties. This makes it possible to adjust for heating during magnetic hyperthermia. This technology allows you to get a larger amount of product.
The project received support in the Student Initiative competition of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and plans to develop a prototype technology that could be used in real cancer treatment in the future.
