Automatic station “Luna-25” could not take pictures of the landing modules of the American spacecraft “Apollo”, since its orbit did not allow it. Nathan Eismont, a research assistant at the Space Research Institute, shared this information. He explained that although possible, the orbiter was chosen to perform a different mission – soft landing on the moon.
Luna-25 became the first lunar mission in the history of modern Russia. It was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome and successfully entered the orbit of an artificial lunar satellite. However, he was unable to take pictures of the Apollo landing craft. Instead, images of the lunar surface were obtained showing Zeeman crater on the far side of the moon.
The lunar mission “Luna-25” planned to make a soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole and collect lunar soil. It was part of the Priority 2030 program aimed at improving Russian universities. In the past, the Luna-24 instrument was also engaged in the study of the moon. It is worth noting that there are “lunar conspiracy” theories that claim that the landing of US astronauts on the moon is fake.
