According to Roskosmos, the automatic station “Luna-25” allegedly crashed on the lunar surface and completed its mission. On August 19, an impulse was sent to him to prepare for the moon landing, but communication with the device was cut off at around 2:57 Moscow time.
The official statement says that the deviation of the real parameters of the impulse from the calculated ones led to the deviation of Luna-25 from the calculated orbit and colliding with the surface of the Moon. Roskosmos also noted that a special commission will investigate the reasons for the device’s disappearance.
Luna-25 was launched to the Moon by a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on 11 August. It made several trajectory corrections and was supposed to land on August 21.
