The American company Boom plans to begin arranging supersonic passenger transport on its Overture aircraft by the end of this decade. The flights will be operated using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Thanks to this fuel, it will be possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the aircraft and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80% over the entire life of the aircraft. It can also be mixed 50/50 with normal fuel.
Overture aircraft run entirely on SAF fuel. According to experts, this aircraft will allow to fly over water twice as fast (average speed – 2090 km / h), as well as 20% faster on land (speed – average 1100 km / h). Fuel will be spent more, but it will not leave a carbon footprint.
Overture flight range – 4,250 nautical miles (about 6,850 km). This makes it possible to lay more than 600 cost-effective routes. In addition, they will be much more diverse than its predecessor, the Concorde.
It will be possible to fly from London to New York in 4 hours. And at subsonic speeds it’s much faster than flying business class.
Basically the Overture will fly over the water. This is because supersonic flights over land are now banned. This is done to protect people on the ground from sonic booms.
