The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation proposed to modify the procedure for the extinction of Russian citizenship. The department has prepared the corresponding draft documents, Vedomosti drew attention.
In case of violations during the citizenship renunciation procedure, the person will remain a citizen of the Russian Federation with all relevant obligations.
The migration unit of the Ministry of the Interior will supervise the verification of the presence or absence of citizenship. If a person is abroad, this will be handled by consulates, diplomatic missions or the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
From April 2022, people may be deprived of Russian citizenship for offenses provided for in articles on discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and spreading false information about the armed forces.
