An unexpected birth shocked Zoo Tennessee in the USA, since giraffe gave birth to a calf that was born without any spots – a situation that has not been seen since 1970.

The Brights Zoo in Limestone announced it had adopted a female giraffe, saying experts “consider her the only solid-colored reticulated giraffe living anywhere on the planet.”

The giraffe, which has yet to be named, is the first of its kind since it was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1972, Bright Zoo director David Bright said in a phone call with Gizmodo. He said only two other flawless reticulated giraffes have been registered, including an older giraffe sibling born in Japan and one registered in Uganda.

“From day one, we have been in contact with zoo professionals from across the country,” Bright told WJHL News. “And especially the old-timers who have been here for a long time: “Hey, did you see this?” What do you think?’ And no one saw it.”

Now it’s time to name the giraffe: alternatives are presented on the Brights Zoo’s Facebook page, where the public has until Labor Day in the US (September 4) to vote. The zoo has chosen names in Swahili based on their meaning, among which are Kipeka (unique), Firyali (unusual or extraordinary), Shaqiri (she is the most beautiful) and Jamella (one of extraordinary beauty).
