Taxi booking aggregator Yandex.Taxi has acquired a small batch of 12 Iranian Iran Khodro Tara sedans. Cars for Russian taxis were produced in a simplified configuration and with an automatic transmission, writes Izvestia.
The model also appeared in Yandex’s internal classifier for trips to Moscow at the “economy” rate, which means that one of the drivers actually uses it, one of the sources explained.
Another interlocutor added that testing such a small batch will not necessarily lead to a larger purchase of these vehicles.
- In January, Iran’s chief Khodro announced deliveries of up to 2,000 vehicles to Russia by 2023. Iran Khodro is not the first Iranian automaker to announce plans to supply its products to the Russian Federation; in February, Sapia announced that it was preparing to enter the Russian market.
- In a context of sanctions that exclude cooperation with several Western companies, the Russian Federation is forging partnerships, in particular with Iran. Earlier, Iranian tramway equipment manufacturers visited the Ust-Katav Transport Factory (owned by Roskomos). According to the company, potential partners are exploring the possibility of starting bogie production at the plant’s facilities.
