The iPhone 15 is expected to have a USB-C port instead of a Lightning connector (due to recent EU laws).

USB-C has benefits such as wider compatibility, faster charging and faster data transfer.

However, new details have emerged about the braided USB-C cables, possibly from Apple. Although these cables are longer and stronger, a researcher named Majin Bu claims that they only support USB 2.0 speeds, limiting data transfer to 480 Mbps, similar to the capabilities of the Lightning connector.

One possible scenario is to limit Thunderbolt support to the more expensive iPhone 15 Pro models or to sell Thunderbolt cables separately.

Alternatively, the cable leak could be related to Apple’s new Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard with USB-C ports.
