Autoblogger Tom Exton previously revealed that his new Tesla Model Y car stopped suddenly on the highway despite having a battery range of over 320 km. After the stop, Exton was unable to get out of the car and started using the emergency door release mechanism. Although Tesla models have emergency door handles, finding them without instructions can be difficult, especially in a panic situation.

Exton’s experience is not unique. In July, 73-year-old Rick Meggison talked about how he found himself locked in his garage for the same reason over a scorching summer.

In response to the complaints, US regulators are recommending that drivers become familiar with the emergency mechanisms of their electric vehicles. Tesla has yet to comment on the situation.
