Korea’s big tech Samsung seems to have a new product for this market after its breakthroughs in virtual and augmented reality. With the Apple Vision Pro arriving next year, the company needs to take action to launch a rival to the product.
According to a leak, it’s described in more detail on its website. Android AuthorityThe company is already making moves. It looks like the company is planning to launch a new milestone in the augmented reality (XR) space: a headset that promises cutting-edge innovations.
After the success of Samsung Gear VR, which made its name in the mobile virtual reality industry, Samsung now aims to take it one step further with the Samsung XR headset. The model was already officially announced at the Samsung Unpacked event in February 2023, but no new details have been received since then, at least not officially.
Rumors and leaks about the Samsung XR
A prototype of the Samsung XR headset was recently revealed by the Chinese news site Vrtuoluo, revealing what the device looks like. While the post has since been discontinued, details about the product can still be found on the Web Archive, providing valuable clues as to what’s to come.
The prototype in question displays a modern design and has four tracking cameras on the sides. It also stands out with the use of dual RGB cameras that allow the transition of colors, and the use of depth sensors for hand and environment tracking. Check out:

The XR headset also features OLED micro-displays and special lenses that contribute to reducing the thickness of the viewfinder, enhancing the user experience. Interestingly, Samsung chose to equip the device with the Samsung Exynos 2200 processor instead of the popular Qualcomm XR SoC. Although the Exynos 2200 has come under criticism for its power consumption and thermal performance in smartphones, the version specifically designed for the headset remains everyone’s guess.
Surprisingly, unlike many competing earphones, the Samsung XR lacks crawler controls. Instead, it promises hand and eye tracking capabilities in line with the Apple Vision Pro’s approach.
Although the leaked details create great expectations, it should be noted that these are information based on an unpublished prototype and are subject to change. Speculation suggests that the official launch could be delayed until mid-2024; This decision is reportedly aimed at improving the device to compete with the Apple Vision Pro.
