The Apple Watch has been my companion for many years. Generations of smartwatches have changed, and in 2022 I finally got my hands on the device of my dreams, the Apple Watch Ultra. This titanium splendor practically does not leave my wrist, absolutely calm both in size and in battery life.

However, more than a month has passed since I got rid of the “ultra” and now I don’t carry any gadgets on my hands at all. There are several reasons for this, five to be exact. And below we will talk about them in more detail.

Looking ahead, I note that not having an Apple Watch on my arm would free me from slavery groups. I have become more collected and attentive, but this is rather a pleasant bonus. And here is the true rejection of smartwatches:

1. They still need to be charged almost every day.

Apple Watch Ultra is currently the most tenacious of all apple watches in terms of autonomy. However, at least once every two days they still need to be removed by hand and put on charge for an hour and a half.

Well, if at the moment when the clock is discharged to zero, you will be near the outlet. Or in the backpack there is a power bank and a charging cable. But this summer, I too often gave up things, but with this useless shrunken smartwatch on my wrist.


I forgot this wire – I was left without a clock.

As a result, I had to walk around with a useless device on my arm for several days, because I forgot to take a charging wire to the dacha. If it were still kind of universal, USB-C is one thing, but this magnetic plastic “washer”, which ONLY fits the Apple Watch, could not be found in the far suburbs.

I do not want to carry another wire with me just to charge the watch. And so the wires in a whole bunch.

2. The Apple Watch is extremely inconvenient to work on a laptop.

I work on a laptop for 8-10 hours a day. And all this time, my Apple Watch lay next to me on the table, because it is extremely inconvenient to collect texts from them on my arm.

Having changed more than a dozen straps with different fasteners, I can say with confidence: there is no such strap that would not scratch the laptop case. And by the way, the fact that I have an aluminum MacBook, I absolutely do not want to watch how its surface is covered with scratches on one side.

So ditching the Apple Watch still keeps my laptop marketable. Okay, I think.

3. Too expensive toy to watch the time


There is so much information on the screen, but I only need hours and minutes. All.

The Ultra has a lot of features that I have never used. Let’s be honest: smart watches are needed in order to find out the time, receive notifications from instant messengers and sometimes switch tracks without bringing the smartphone out of your pocket.

Despite the abundance of applications adapted for the Apple Watch, I do not remember ever using them. Well, really, am I really going to try to get directions in Google maps on the watch screen? Of course not, I got an iPhone and I will do it much faster.

The same goes for most and all of the apps that were installed on my Apple Watch. I just did not use it, preferring to run the necessary devices on the iPhone.

4. Notifications constantly slow down.

I have subscribed to a lot of different channels on Telegram, I am constantly receiving emails and press releases, as well as private messages and groups in huge numbers. Every minute I get ten signals, and if on a smartphone I can just stand next to them, then annoying tapping on my wrist, if I can’t see the turn, does not work.

So a day I throw my wrist in my eyes, it’s worth a time. This movement has become so habitual that even after giving up the Apple Watch for the first few days, I automatically raised my hand to check for their presence, otherwise I didn’t feel something for a long time.

Without the constant vibration of the device on the hand, life is much better. I even began to fall asleep faster, and wake up more vigorous. For a month now, I have been watching notifications on the smartphone screen when I want to, and not in the device of a wrist device.

5. Fear of scratching or breaking your Apple Watch.


Once a week, he meticulously looked at his watch for a display of items of new scuffs or scratches.

Despite the materials, the fear of damaging the glass or case is constantly present as long as I have a smartwatch on my wrist. Stably every few days, you accidentally hit your Apple Watch on an errand, swipe it against the wall, or inadvertently knock it against the head of the bed in the evening.

Each such case causes an alarm on the screen, it is checked – suddenly there is a SCRATCH on everything? You don’t want to tune in, you delay the moments of checking the watch for integrity… Why do I need these unnecessary negative emotions? No watch on hand, no problem!

Most of all, he was afraid not of the very fact of the possible appearance of scratches, but of the fact that they could appear literally out of the blue. That is, it is enough to gape once, carelessly wave your hand and all that, the appearance of the Apple Watch can be hopelessly damaged. This constant expectation of disappointment is very exhausting.

Life doesn’t stop without the Apple Watch. It only gets better


I absolutely do not want to put a wearable gadget on my hand again. You give freedom from international slavery.

Without a smart gadget on my arm, I feel calmer. While I’m watching from the screen of my iPhone, I check notifications there. I fall asleep and wake up without tracking these phases of sleep, I’m not afraid to scratch or break something on my wrist.

Until now, it is believed that the Apple Watch Ultra is the coolest wristwatch. Just sooner or later, natural fatigue from the abundance of gadgets around begins. And ditching smart utility watches helps minimize the information noise coming through me.

I recommend everyone to put their fitness bracelets and smartwatches aside for at least a week. It’s easy to live without digital counters, which pay attention to those who attract attention, keeping the vibration. By its nature, I can say that the brain is cleared, the level of anxiety drops, and the mood becomes better.
