Yandex announced the launch of joint training programs for IT specialists with Russian educational institutions. Starting in September, they will open at MIREA, MAI, MEPhI, NRU HSE (campus in St. Petersburg), NSU and ITMO, the company’s press service reported.

Thus, “Yandex” doubles the scale of training in the field of information technology. Starting next month, more than 3,000 freshmen will begin studying in Yandex-supported educational programs and faculties.

To date, the company’s programs have launched at eight universities and accept 1.5 thousand applicants each year.

As part of the partnership, first- and second-year students from MIREA, MAI, MEPhI, and NRU HSE (St. Petersburg) will study the programming languages ​​Python, C++, and Go. They will also receive training in data processing algorithms based on Yandex manuals and online programming tutorials.

Senior students will have access to lectures on machine learning given by specialists from the Yandex School of Data Analysis. Training is also offered to teachers from partner universities: they will be taught new practices and tools.

Yandex’s master’s programs at NSU and ITMO offer specialized training in artificial intelligence and high-load system development.

Also this year saw the first enrollment for accelerated online bachelor’s and master’s programs. The programs were prepared by Yandex Practicum together with TSU, MISiS and ITMO. They will train future data analysts and front-end developers.

In 2024-2025, the company intends to increase the number of partner universities to 20.

In early August, Maksut Shadayev, head of Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development, estimated the country’s IT staff shortage at between 500,000 and 700,000 people.
