Quinoa, pasta, and fondue… or what was it called? You have probably already heard about them. food ever, but do you know how they are pronounced? If not, we welcome you to the club.

According to a new study by PreplyMany Spanish speakers have trouble pronouncing world famous foods correctly. A team of language experts wanted to get to the bottom of the issue and find out which international products are most commonly mispronounced by Spanish speakers. To do this, more than 70 international food products were researched to find out how often their pronunciation is searched on Google.

In addition, the study examines over 25 well-known Hispanic foods to determine which ones are the hardest to pronounce internationally.

According to Preply’s research, these are the 10 foods most commonly mispronounced by Hispanics.

Preply’s research, against all odds, shows that the word “pizza” is the name of the product that Spanish speakers pronounce the most. Although this Italian dish is highly regarded around the world, this has not eliminated the confusion around its correct pronunciation. Spanish speakers searched for its correct pronunciation annually at 34,800.

“Croissant” comes in second with 5,760 pronunciation requests per year for this essential French breakfast. The third place is shared by the words “fondue” and “sushi” with an average number of search queries of 1680 per year.

Other foods that Spanish speakers often mispronounce are “cordon blu” (360 searches per year), “chipotle” (600 searches per year) and “bruschetta” (480 searches per year).
