I watched the cartoon “Elementary”. Pixar went down?

Pixar’s new work, Elementary, has been released on Russian screens.

The cartoon, which, with a huge production budget of $200 million, was involved in the cartoon world and lured a trailer that failed at the global box office. Something went wrong? Boring? Stupid? Not interested?

We have already looked at the novelty and figured out this issue. We hasten to share our impressions.

Elemental City is a cartoonish embodiment of modern America

What is the cartoon about: In the City of the Elements, the inhabitants of fire, water, earth and air live together. Hot-tempered, fiery girl Amber strikes up an unlikely friendship with laid-back, drifting boy Wade. I have to solve Amber’s father’s family business and sort out normal friend-to-friend relationships.

First of all, I would like once again to say hello to the localizers who worked on the translation of the film’s title. Converting “Elemental” to “Elementary” is, of course, a special gift of knowing foreign languages.

An elemental is an elemental spirit, a mythical Being containing one of the four elements: air, earth, fire, or water.. It is about the world of these poems that the new Pixar cartoon is being discussed. Everything elementary is simple.

In this regard, I propose, just as in the cartoon, to divide the project into four parts: the concept of the world, the plot, the visual component, the moral of the story.

The action takes place in the vibrant city of City Element, populated by cute, anthropomorphized versions of the four elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth. The world exists according to its own limitations, the themes that our society instills in itself on the basis of color, race or social origin.

So, most of the inhabitants here have a good score, except for the fiery people. The theme of the story itself literally screams about its undisguised current agenda – the complexities of immigrant life in America and the constant clash with different cultures.

The language, accents, and traditions of fire people (for example, their love of spicy food) clearly allude to mixture of Asian and Middle Eastern peoples. In this case, they all live at a distance from other “nationalities”, practically in the place of the ghetto.

In turn, watery people represent the local “white” residents enjoying privileges. For example, they may publicly express their emotions without serious judgment. Who will tell them what?

The idea itself interesting filed, after all, the scriptwriters do everything as confusingly as possible. Thus, some of the ideas and reflections on injustice escape attention.

Plot grounds but not very interesting

The plot of the story was that the main character Amber, the daughter of two fiery elements who built in Element City from their native country in search of a better life, faced the water effect of a carefree resident. And this meeting gradually transforms the picture into bit romantic films about the attraction of opposites.

It would be ideal if the writers focused on the first teenage love, thus making the film a good combination of touching and funny story. But instead of this story, the connection of three full-fledged storylines begins:

1. drama about the injustice of the world
2. cliché storyline “Romeo and Juliet”
3. fathers and sons theme

The cartoon literally complicates itself. A simple romantic comedy that manages to grapple with culture, urban racism and the expectations that parents place on their children. The subplots here are too bulky and overshadow the main storyline of the love story.

As a result, the visibility of the film is obvious difficulties in finding your resource. For very young, some moments of communication here will be incomprehensible, some of the jokes passed by. Older children may find the lack of a pronounced antagonist boring, and they will most likely just enjoy the existence of the world. Adults simply lack intrigue, and they are simply tired of the topic of racism.

The cartoon is very nice

What the spectacle is definitely not tired of is the magnificent creative work of the artist. The film is once again the chic talent of people from Pixar.

Visually “Elementary” is excellent. At first it seems to you that the characters are drawn too simplistic, but at the same time you understand how carefully and professionally the designers worked on using one or another emotion of the characters or elemental effects.

Great world building is one of the main elements, there are a lot of visual details based on different elements.

Especially beautiful underwater scene. already it’s worth going to the cinema, look at the splendor of colors on the big screen. The use of various combinations of pastel shades, interesting massive details that are constantly on the back panel, causes delight and respect for the creators.

Verdict? Watch not to be missed

Perhaps it’s time to face the fact that we’ve passed Pixar’s peak.

After movies with complex characters like WALLY the robot, the rodent from Ratatouille, or the deep message in Inside Out, the entry seems to lack a clear narrative core and a democratic moral message. The characters are not weakened and the characters are revealed, the script of a more twisted plot, the cartoon itself – catchy melodies.

Unfortunately, this is not such a grandiose Pixar project, when the youngest viewers will laugh and enjoy, while I, who is older, will quietly shed tears at the time of viewing.

Perhaps the main problem of the new cartoon is its serial number in Pixar films, this is the 27th project of the studio. In recent years, exceptionally high demands have been put forward for any new picture. And when one of the cartoons does not shoot a clip of bad emotions, critics simply smash the project.

Despite the fact that “Elementary” is an excellent family cartoon with care for a well-thought-out world, even if only once. Such pictures also have the right to exist.

Just don’t look for a California studio masterpiece in any project.
