Experts state that “secure storage” will be created at the Royal Air Force base Lakenheath, about 100km from London. It is also planned to build barracks for RAF F-35 pilots next to the weapons depot.
These documents show that the US can deploy nuclear weapons in the UK again after a 15-year hiatus. The US kept its nuclear weapons in Britain for over half a century, starting in 1952, but removed it in 2008 for reasons such as the obsolescence of the B61 bombs and attempts at nuclear disarmament.
