Apple Satellite Emergency Call currently operates in many countries and allows users to contact them in areas where cell phone coverage is not available. This partnership will also expand its coverage to other regions.

Interestingly, Apple is showing interest in satellite technology for more than just emergency services. A recently published patent by Apple points to the possibility of using satellites for various types of communication, including the transmission of media content and Internet data.
