It brought the National Air Traffic Services (NATs) system to a standstill, raising concerns about the consequences of a single typo. At Downing Street’s initiative, an independent investigation into the incident was launched, resulting in more than a quarter of flights canceled at UK airports.
Nats CEO Martin Rolfe explained that in response to erroneous flight data, their systems are suspending automatic processing to prevent safety-related misinformation from reaching air traffic controllers or affecting the entire air traffic system.
While approximately 300,000 passengers are facing the problem of flight disruption as a result of the failure of the air traffic control system, airlines are trying to cope with the problems accumulated during the busy travel period when the summer holidays are over.
