Abrams states that although most tanks have perimeter armor that protects against anti-tank shells, the tanks are vulnerable to anti-tank missile systems. They also had problems with the reliability of the power plant in the past, which caused casualties in Iraq. Evacuating damaged Abrams tanks from the battlefield can be difficult due to the tank’s considerable mass.

Dandykin believes that the Ukrainian Abrams can be repaired at best only in Poland, where American vehicles are in service. He also argues that the number of tanks promised to be delivered to Kiev is unlikely to have a significant impact on the course of the NMD.
