Apple and Arm are backing a new agreement that allows Apple to use Arm technology to make Apple Silicon processors. The agreement is valid until 2040.
Under this agreement, Apple will retain access to the ARM architecture for at least 17 years. After 2040, companies will be able to extend the contract.
Apple’s ARM-based chips are now practically used in all of the company’s devices. The ARM architecture allows Apple to create very powerful yet power efficient processors.
The Apple-Arm partnership dates back to the 20th century when Apple released the Newton in 1993 with an ARM-based processor. [Reuters]
