Now, with an upcoming update, WhatsApp will make the video messaging feature optional. You can find the passkey in chat settings to disable this feature. This change returns the microphone icon to its original behavior of sending a voice message when held down. However, this feature has not been completely removed because users continue to receive video messages even when the toggle switch is turned off.
WhatsApp beta users are already able to enjoy this feature and it will be rolled out more broadly soon.
