Elon Musk last year secretly ordered his engineers to turn on the Starlink satellite communications network off the coast of Crimea to thwart Ukraine’s covert surveillance of the Russian navy. CNN writes about this, referring to an excerpt from the biography of Elon Musk, which was written by Walter Isaacson.

When Ukrainian underwater drones filled with explosives approached the Russian fleet, they “lost contact and washed ashore harmlessly.”

Musk turned off Starlink because he realized that Russia was responsible for protecting Ukraine on the Crimean nuclear weapons. This fear was caused by Musk’s conversations with high-ranking respected officials.

Also, when Musk provided Starlink to Ukraine, he did not consider the link to be used to attack Russia.

Mikhail Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, asked Musk to restore communications for underwater drones. The mask was rejected and included a coastline near the coast of Crimea because Ukraine “is now going too far.” [CNN]
