This is a significant upgrade over the smaller-capacity models: The 2TB model is currently available on Amazon for $149, according to Tom’s Hardware.
The 990 Pro 4TB model offers good performance at the same level as its 1TB and 2TB counterparts, with 7400MB/s sequential read and 6900MB/s sequential write. Endurance is also doubled; It went from 1200TB in the 2TB model to 2400TB in the 4TB version. While the SSD still uses 176-layer TLC NAND, the amount of onboard LPDDR4 cache has increased to 4GB.
The 990 Pro 4TB remains one of the fastest options in the PCIe 4.0 category, despite being PCIe 4.0-based and unable to match the speeds of PCIe 5.0 SSDs. It’s great for high-end computers and is also compatible with PlayStation 5.
SSDs will be available on the Samsung website and at select retailers from October.
