Forbes magazine published the top 50 of the most expensive sports clubs in the world. The NFL’s $9 billion Dallas Cowboys are back in first place; the team has been at the top of the standings for the past 16 years. Also in the top ten are clubs from the NBA and MLB.

The Dallas Cowboys topped the list of the world’s most expensive sports clubs for the 16th consecutive time.

The total value of the 50 most valuable sports teams in the world in 2023 is $256 (an average of $5.12 billion per club), 15% more than a year ago. However, not only the prices of the equipment are increasing, but also its financial deficit. This year it is higher than ever: $3.7 billion (19% more than in 2022), Forbes clarifies.

The increase in prices, which far exceeds income, is due to the high income of players. For example, the Washington Commanders of the same NFL (12th on the list) sold in July for a record $6.05 billion, 11 times more than the club’s revenue.

The NFL traditionally leads the number of clubs included in the rankings: Three dozen of the top 50 are from the National Football League. But the value of NFL clubs is not growing as significantly as the prices of teams in other sports.

For example, in classic football, the value of PSG has grown by 114% in five years, and that of the French team by 334% since 2018 (up to $4.2 billion and 36th place). The prices of English Premier League clubs have also increased: Liverpool’s increased by 173%, Manchester City’s by 102%

The ratings of Formula 1 teams have increased by 276% compared to calculations four years ago, when racing teams were present in the ranking (then they did not reach the top 50 for a long time).

No NHL teams qualified this year. The cost of the most expensive hockey team, the New York Rangers, is “only” $2.2 billion.
