A unique concert took place on the Mariinsky Stage at the Eastern Economic Forum 2023, where the artificial intelligence, together with the Grand Symphony Orchestra, performed Symphony No. 1, created by composer Petr Dranga. This historic event was the first in the world where a neural network developed by Sberbank demonstrated its creative abilities on the music scene.

The artificial intelligence known as SymFormer and developed by Sberbank was trained for this unique opportunity. A key feature of the concert was that SymFormer improvised in real time based on the information provided. This project was a step in the development of artificial intelligence and its creative potential.

Composer Petr Dranga emphasized that the rehearsals with artificial intelligence were carried out in close cooperation. The AI was independently deciding when to enter a piece of music. This symphony consists of four movements, in the first two movements the solo part was performed by Chinese musicians, and SymFormer controlled the expression of the music on stage. In the last two episodes, audiences were able to hear SymFormer’s improvisations in real time. The potential of artificial intelligence in the world of music and art was emphasized at the event.
