Although the activity coincides with rising tensions between the three countries, experts warn that such actions do not necessarily indicate an intention to violate the nuclear testing moratorium.
China’s Foreign Ministry criticized the reports, calling them “exaggerating the Chinese nuclear threat” and calling them “highly irresponsible.”
Interestingly, the test site on Novaya Zemlya is being kept ready for the resumption of nuclear tests.
