Instead, PassKeys access keys will be used to log into applications, services, and sites. Access keys are needed to change classic passwords with fingerprint, face scan or PIN code.

However, there are some restrictions on the use of Passkeys: They can only be used on resources and applications that support WebAuth web authentication technology. These standards are developed by the FIDO 2 Alliance.

Users will be able to create Passkeys in the Windows Hello app. Two encryption keys are generated, one stored on the device and the other in the cloud. Access to the required resource appears only when the copies match; these are not displayed anywhere and only the user can manage them.
