Smartphone use will not lead to hand deformities in the near future. This statement was made by Russian science popularizer Alexander Sokolov, founder of the scientific and educational portal Anthropogenesis.ru. He explained that evolutionary changes take a long time and natural selection.
Sokolov explained that several generations are needed for evolutionary changes to occur, and during these generations the owners of certain traits should have an advantage in survival and reproduction. In this case, frequent use of smartphones does not create such a choice. Even if a person does not use the device very skillfully, this does not affect their ability to live and have children.
He pointed out that technology is developing very quickly and that smartphones may be replaced by other devices in a few decades. Sokolov believes that 50 years or even earlier, smartphones will be a thing of the past and people will do something completely different that will not cause deformation in their hands.
