Review of Changan, which sells the most cars in Russia. Technology is 150 years old, but we know nothing about it

Over the past year and a half, sales of Chinese cars have grown rapidly in Russia. One of the most popular Chinese brands is Changan.

The company offers the largest model range, consisting of 15 cars, which cover various segments.

Now they are evaluating what cars can be bought and what makes Changan unique.

Changan is the oldest car manufacturer in China

Changjiang Type 46 is Changan’s first car.

Changan Company was founded in 1862. It first produced military equipment and weapons, and in 1959 it switched to cars.

By this time, the main plant had been moved from Shanghai to Chongqi because it was subject to invasion and bombing during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

Changan initially produced small commercial and military vehicles. But gradually, with the support of the Chinese government, civilian production and cooperation with other companies begin.

Avatr 11 is an electric car produced by a subsidiary of Changan.

In China, Changan has modern Ford and Mazda factories. Apart from this, it has two electric vehicle brands: Deepal and Avatr.

The latter, Avatr, develops premium electric vehicles together with CATL, the largest manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles, which are used, among other things, in Tesla and BMW.

In Russia, problems arose with the sale of Changan cars in 2014 with the CS35 crossover. At first it was produced at the Lipetsk Motorinvest plant, but later production closed.

Now all Changan cars in Russia are imported from China.

Alsvin

💰 Price: from 1.65 million rubles

Alsvin is the most expensive Changan car in Russia. This compact sedan, which was introduced in China in 2018, and began selling in Russia in 2023.

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 98 hp, which is paired with a five-speed robot.

The car has two airbags, air conditioning, a light sensor, rear parking sensors and a sunroof.

Eado Plus

💰 Price: from 2.28 million rubles

In the company’s model range, Eado Plus occupies the entire niche – it is a mid-size sedan, which is very popular on the Russian market.

The car is sold only with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with 155 hp, a seven-speed robot and front-wheel drive.

Options include climate control, a rear view camera, keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, seat ventilation and electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

Lamor

💰 Price: from 2.78 million rubles

Lamoreux also occupies the niche of a mid-size sedan, but unlike the Eado Plus, it is much more modern. In China, the car will be sold from 2023, and in Russia – from September.

The car is paired with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine with a power of 166 hp. and a seven-speed robot.

There are also many more options available inside the car. A large screen with all-round visibility is installed in the center. The car also has an oval steering wheel and backlighting instead of a dashboard.

Unit

💰 Price: from 2.86 million rubles

Uni-T is a mid-size coupe-shaped crossover that began selling in Russia in 2023.

The car was received only in conjunction with a 1.5 liter 167 hp turbo engine. and a seven-speed robot. Drive is front-wheel drive only.

Interesting options include a panoramic roof, automatic parking, a built-in video recorder and an electric trunk lid.

Uni-V

💰 Price: from 2.85 million rubles

Uni-V is very similar to Lamore. This is another mid-size crossover, but with a more aggressive body and a liftback body.

The car is designed for Russia with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 181 hp, a seven-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

In terms of equipment, both cars are also similar. The Uni-V has ventilated seats, a retractable trunk spoiler, a power trunk lid, adaptive cruise control, an integrated dash cam, a panoramic roof, and power-adjustable front seats.

Uni-K

💰 Price: from 3.63 million rubles

The Uni-K is a large crossover, similar in appearance to the Uni-T and Uni-V. Its length is 4.8 meters.

The car is equipped with a 2-liter gasoline turbo engine that produces 226 hp. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available to choose from.

Among the interesting options are a heated windshield, contour lighting of the interior, heating of all seats and ventilation of the front seats, as well as adaptive cruise control.

CS35Plus and CS35Plus New

💰 Price: CS35Plus from 1.8 million rubles and CS35Plus New from 2.25 million rubles

CS35Plus and CS35Plus New are Changan’s cheapest and most compact crossovers. CS35Plus is a pre-restyling version, and CS35Plus New is a restyling released in 2021.

Both crossovers are front-wheel drive. The CS35Plus is only sold with a 117 hp 1.6-liter engine, which can be mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

In the CS35Plus, the new engine is more powerful: 1.4 liters with 150 hp. with a turbine. There is one gearbox – a seven-speed robot.

The list of options in the cars is similar: climate control, rear view camera, cruise control, keyless entry and parking sensors.

CS55Plus and CS55Plus New

💰 Price: CS55Plus from 2.08 million rubles and CS55Plus New from 2.5 million rubles

CS55Plus is Changan’s mid-size crossover, and CS55Plus New is its facelift.

Under the hood of the CS55Plus is a 1.5-liter engine producing 143 hp. There are two transmissions to choose from: a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. Drive is front-wheel drive.

The CS55Plus has a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 181 hp. It is paired with a seven-speed robot. Drive is front-wheel drive only.

The equipment of the cars is also visible, but the CS55Plus New offers more features: an all-round camera, modern cruise control, remote engine start, a panoramic roof and heated seats.

CS75Plus

💰 Price: 2.78 million rubles

CS75Plus is another Changan crossover with a length of 4.7 meters. This is 0.2 meters more than the CS55Plus New.

The car is increased with front-wheel drive, 1.5-liter engine producing 167 hp. and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The car is available in one configuration, which includes climate control, heated front seats, keyless entry, adaptive cruise control and a built-in video recorder.

CS85 Coupe

💰 Price: 3.7 million rubles

The CS85 Coupe is a competitor to the Geely Tugella. They have similar dimensions and the same coupe-like body.

The car is equipped with a 2-liter turbocharged engine producing 224 hp, a classic eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

The car has six airbags, two climate controls, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise and an automatic parking system.

CS95

💰 Price: 4.1 million rubles

This is the largest crossover in the Changan lineup. Its length is 4.95 meters. In Russia, the car is sold only with a seven-seater interior.

The power unit – one – is a turbocharged two-liter engine with 220 hp, which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It is also the only Changan crossover that is all-wheel drive.

The car offers a large list of options: electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, all-round video view, adaptive cruise, ambient interior lighting, a built-in 360-degree DVR and backrest adjustment for the second row seats.

Changan sales in Russia increased 37 times

According to Autostat, in August 2023, Changan sold 6,869 cars compared to 185 cars in the same month last year.

In just eight months of 2023, 20,878 cars were sold. The most popular model is CS55Plus New – 1607 units sold, in second place is CS35 Plus with a result of 1167 units and in third place is Uni-K (1117 units).

By 2025, Changan plans to start producing cars with classic internal combustion engines. Instead, the company will produce hybrids and electric vehicles.
