In Russia, since the beginning of the year, sales of Lada cars have increased by 96%, the press service of AvtoVAZ reported to RBC. The most popular models are Lada Granta and Lada Vesta.
Since the beginning of 2023, more than 242 thousand new Lada cars have been sold. In September alone, 36,231 passenger and commercial vehicles of this brand were sold in the country. Thus, last month the sales figure exceeded August results by 8.7%.
As explained in the press service, in September the Lada Vesta model broke the record for March 2022: 7,301 cars were sold last month. Lada Granta set a record since the start of its production in 2011: in September, motorists purchased 19,913 units of this model.
In addition, the Niva Legend model showed the best sales results since 2014, with 4,070 units sold.
However, according to Avtostat, over the past year Lada’s popularity has decreased slightly. If in September 2022 the brand represented around 40% of passenger car sales, in September 2023 this figure was reduced to 32%.
As AvtoVAZ indicated, the sanctions did not affect the production volume: in the third quarter the company produced more than 118 thousand cars, 1.7 times more than the figures for the second quarter.
“The direct inclusion of the company in the sanctions lists does not currently have a significant impact on our work, although we cannot exclude the emergence of secondary factors over which AvtoVAZ has no influence,” said AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov, adding that the company considers possible risks. .
AvtoVAZ, along with Sollers and Moskvich, were targeted by US sanctions in September. Prior to this, the manufacturer, although not under direct restrictions, still faced sanctions.
At the beginning of the year, AvtoVAZ began to have problems with paints and varnishes, so it had to temporarily reduce the color range. Instead of choosing between six and eight colors, AvtoVAZ began producing cars in three colors.
